Ornament FO

Franziska Opels Folienarbeit Ornament F lässt die schmalen Fenster im hinteren Teil des Ausstellungsraums wie farbig gestaltete Kirchenfenster erscheinen. Ähnlich wie in der traditionellen Glasmalerei stehen auch die beiden Arbeiten Opels im Dienste der Architektur, die spitz nach unten zulaufenden grafischen Elemente verweisen auf die Galerieräume im Untergeschoss. Über beide Fenster verläuft zudem der Schriftzug Follow Me. In ihrer Arbeit verbinden sich Sprache und Symbol und unterstützen sich in ihrer jeweiligen Aussage; gemeinsam fungieren sie als Leitsystem. Opels Arbeit wird zum steuernden Element, spielt auf eine alltägliche Konditionierung an. Kommt man der Aufforderung nach, trifft man im unteren Raum auf Ornament O, auch dies ein von Opel gestaltetes Fenster. Neben einer kreisrunden Öffnung, die den Blick in den Innenhof freigibt, zeigt die Arbeit einen nach oben gerichteten Pfeil, bildet somit das Pendant zu Ornament F. Franziska Opel's vinyl work Ornament F makes the narrow windows at the back of the exhibition space look like colourfully designed church windows. Similar to traditional stained glass, Opel's two works also complement the architecture in the space: the graphic elements tapering downwards refer to the gallery spaces in the basement. The words Follow Me run across both windows. As is often in her work Franziska Opel combines language and symbols – they support each other in their respective statements; together they function as a guidance system. Opel's work becomes a controlling element, alluding to an everyday conditioning. If one follows the invitation to follow, one encounters Ornament O in the lower room, also a window designed by Opel. In addition to a circular opening that offers a view of the inner courtyard, the work shows an arrow pointing upwards, thus forming the counterpart to Ornament F.
